Hi guys, Just a piece of observation today; I've received a call from my client, who is subscribed to our IT Monitoring Services (of which Kabuto is largely part of) to tell me that her PC is slow to a crawl since Saturday. We are surprised as usually Kabuto should notify us on any issues at least on the day itself.
Turns out, the root cause is found to be bad blocks occurring on the HDD, having read/write access speeds of less than 0.5mb/s! This data is pulled from Event Viewer. And because this client lives very far from us, I upsold monitoring services so that we as an MSP, can have ample preparation time for any hardware replacement. Imagine our embarrassment when we didn't receive any alerts about this impending disaster when queried by our client! We are really fortunate that the HDD didn't suddenly die on us.
It is exactly this kind of situation that we hoped Kabuto can proactively predict, but it failed on us. We do receive alerts but they are menial in comparison; like HDD fragmentation & device manager alerts. Never once in our one year of subscription and trial period did we ever have any HDD SMART alerts. We might be looking for alternatives very soon.
To those considering Kabuto as a RMM, it's not quite there yet. There are improvements/bug fixes rolled out but progress takes time. And this untimely episode made me re-consider my options, even if it means re-deploying agents to all my subscribed customers.
So here's hoping that something can be done/fixed, I do hope mine is an isolated case.
